Simply add some of the food to a jar and add a few drops of your acidic or alkaline testing solution. Try something new College is a great opportunity for students to expand their knowledge whether they are meeting friends from other cultures and backgrounds, learning a new skill, or studying abroad. Universities offer new students tons of opportunity to try something new without making a commitment for an entire semester. Students can join a club or organization where they meet new people, join a volunteer group on campus, or sign up for a one-day seminar. In addition to academic exploration, there’s plenty of opportunities for students to experience new social situations. For example, a student might join a multicultural club or volunteer to fundraising for an important cause. The most important thing is that students can step out of their comfort zone and experience university life. 3. Obtain an internship Another great goal for new college students to have is to obtain an internship during the summer term. Internships are fantastic opportunities to make connections, get recommendations, and meet new people. 5 Things to Know About Off-Campus Living Although we all describe the initial move to college as living on your own, thats really an illusion of sorts. Sure, you may be living without your parents, but it takes a lot more than that to be seriously independent. The dorms may offer you a place of your own, but lets face it they still shelter you from some big responsibilities that truly living on your own entails. Of course, no one lives in the dorms forever. Its fun for awhile, but eventually you get fed up with the cramped space and loud floormates and are ready to move on. Students even recognize the aspects of an actually independent living residence that their dorm lacks. This is highlighted when they express their desire for a spacious living room to host social gatherings, a fully-equipped kitchen to keep them from the dining hall, a bathroom they dont have to share with 30 other people, and of course their own room. And hey, a porch or balcony would be nice, too. The possibilities seem limitless and the ideas grow, leading a student to feel so anxious and excited about apartment life that they barely give any bit of substantial thought to the not-so-fun obligations involved. Dont get blind-sighted by the responsibilities of off-campus living. Prepare yourself by paying attention to the following notes: 1. You will have to clean really clean. If you thought sweeping or vacuuming your dorm room floor once in awhile was what it takes to keep a home tidy, be ready for a rude awakening. Suddenly, the years you spent watching your parents spend hours on end scrubbing the bathroom floors and kitchen counters are going to make a lot of sense. They werent just being nit-picky, these tasks need to be done! At least, they need to be done if you dont want bugs and weird smells taking over your place. And the type of cleaning necessary to accomplish those goals is serious, not something you can coast your way through. Particularly the kitchen and bathroom will need the most consistent attention. Toilets need to be cleaned and dirty dishes need to be washed before things get bothersome. Additionally, throughout the entire place, its amazing how quickly dust and dirt accumulate. Dont forget about taking out the inevitably overflowing trash either. As you can see, great discipline in this departm ent is required to keep yourself safe from a filthy living environment, so buy those sponges and rubber gloves and learn how to use them! 2. Maintenance is required. There are two parts to this. One: you will need to pay attention to how things are working and make sure youre taking care of them properly. This can range from light-bulbs going out, to batteries failing, to your closet door being jammed, to your microwave breaking. Theres no R.A. down the hall with items on hand or a dorm lobby convenience store downstairs. Itll be up to you and only you to get a store and find the right tools or items you need. You will typically want to try your best to solve these problems yourself because otherwise, youll have to pay a certain service to fix them, which brings us to the second part of this: calling and dealing with landlords and maintenance workers. Dealing with making the necessary series of calls, scheduling appointments, being there for the appointments in the midst of your busy class schedule, and then paying the most likely overcharged bill is not a fun or simple process. However, these are just random day-to-da y issues that unfortunately cant be avoided and must be addressed. 3. Rent and bills. Speaking of ridiculously high maintenance bills, those wont be the only checks youll have to write out. The bills you receive may vary depending on the kind of package your landlord offers i.e. something cable or internet may be included in rent. But lets pay attention to that last word rent. Odds are the more services your landlord provides, the higher your rent will be. So, either way, you are paying a lot of money for off-campus living. Electricity, heat, cable, internet, and any other services you would like will no longer be luxuries for you; they are now things you need to actively pay for. Youre going to feel a lot more pressure to save money, and more importantly, get these various payments made in a timely manner. If you are late turning in a rent check or paying a bill, the aftermath is not going to be pretty. 4. Location is not always ideal. Unlike the dorms, apartments will not be so conveniently placed to accommodate your daily routine throughout campus. This shouldnt be too surprising since they are, in fact, referred to as off-campus living. But living so directly on campus your freshman year is bound to spoil you and not leave in the mindset to fully digest what it will really be like to have to make so many long walks. Granted, some off-campus apartments/house are closer to campus than others, and you may get lucky, but even then you will have to adjust accordingly. Make sure you get a solid idea of approximately how long it will take you to get to various academic buildings from your place of residence. This is absolutely necessary for you to be able to get to classes on time, set your alarm at an appropriate hour, and go about your normal schedule with no issues. 5. Socialization will not be as easy. In the dorms, friends were just a few steps down the hallway. Even if you just wanted to be around people regardless of who they were, you could head downstairs to one of the common areas and feel comfortable. Once youre living off-campus, social opportunities wont be so easily nearby. Outside of your roommates and neighbors, youll have to make an extra effort to see your friends who may live more than a few blocks away. None of this is to say you wont be able to see anyone anymore, its just a clarification that youll have to actively get outside of your living space more in order to be around people (besides in your classes). Otherwise, you could very easily fall into a trap of isolating yourself. Living off-campus certainly comes with a lot of the perks you desire, but these responsibilities must be taken into account as well. As long as you move in with a mature manner to handle all of this, you will have a successful off-campus living experience.

That said, it is more expensive than some of the other kits at around £600.That said, it’s one of the best kits to start learning the drums.Tama Rhythm Mate Fusion 20?For around £500 new, this drum kit has a powerful and warm sound It’s a great quality kit and will last for ages.Like a lot of these kits, you should consider changing the cymbals for better and heavier ones. The skins can also be changed for a better sound. That said, when you get started with playing, it’ll do the trick.Other Things to Think AboutDon’t forget to check whether your kit comes with cymbals or not. Sometimes, kits don’t come with them and you’ll need to buy them separately. You should opt for long and thin drumsticks for kids.I recommend that you change the skins, too. Second-hand kits will have worn skins and if it’s a new kit, the skins will usually be of a low quality.  Playing with quality drum skins can completely change the sound of the instrument. It’s better to have tired good skins than low-quality new skins.Don’t forget hearing protection for children. We don’t often think about it, but children’s ears are still developing and more fragile than ours.  It’s important to, therefore, invest in protection! For a few quid, you’ll find what you need!

One great way to do this is to plan creative STEM activities for your students this summerSTEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math, subject areas that give students a multitude of room for creative activities to keep them engaged and excited about learning. See below for more details on how to execute these! STEM Activity #1: Get creative with Legos When it comes to creating things with Legos, the possibilities are endless. One great way to incorporate STEM into the summer is to have students build something to go with their favorite book. This could be the setting for the book, or a particular scene or aspect of the story. By doing this, they will learn the process of engineering, problem solving, and improvisingthings that are key in STEM practices. They will learn how to take the pieces and objects they have and make their ideas come to life. As previously mentioned, there are many different STEM activities you can engage in with Legos, so dont be afraid to try other ones out. Get creative! STEM Activity #2: Water cycle in a bottle Do you have students interested in the weather, but not sure how to teach them about it? A water cycle discovery bottle could be a great way to get them engaged in learning about the weather. This experiment allows students to visually see the effects of evaporation and condensation inside the discovery bottle. [RELATED: STEM Resources for Students] In this experiment, youll need a plastic water bottle, food coloring, water, and a sharpie. Feel free to encourage your students to draw clouds or other weather imagery on their bottle. Mix a half cup of water and food coloring (blue can work well), and set the bottle by a window. Your student will then be able to see the stages of the water cycle. While your child wont see precipitation firsthand in the discovery bottle, he or she can see evaporation and condensation, and you can discuss precipitation. Your child wont be able to see the stages in full, but this is a great way for him or her to visualize the effects of the water cycle when learning about how it works. It also shows your student that whether its a sunny, rainy, or cloudy day, the water cycle is always at work around us. STEM Activity #3: Experimenting with shadows A great way to teach your student about the Earths rotation and shadows is to do a human sundial experiment. For this activity, make sure to pick a sunny day and follow the below steps: Mark a spot on the sidewalk, driveway, or other hard surface for your student to safely stand throughout the experiment, and make sure you leave plenty of space around to trace out shadows. Trace your childs shadow using sidewalk chalk three to five times throughout the day. Your student will stand facing the same direction each time, but his or her shadow will look different every time it is drawn due to the rotation of the Earth and the sun being at different angles. The end effect will be three to five different shadows pointing in different directions around the circle. Have your child take note of the different shapes, sizes, and placements of each shadow.
